Hyppia: Cult figure
We will see what next year brings. I will keep working hard and keep myself fit and whenever the manager needs me I will be there.
Sami Hyypia
Quotes of the week
Sami Hyypia wants to make the most of his time at Liverpool after committing to the club until the summer of 2009.
The 34-year-old Finnish centre-back has been an integral member of the Reds' backline since moving to Anfield from Willem II for £2.5million.
Having agreed a one-year extension to his contract, Hyypia is now set to complete a decade at the club he joined in 1999 and he could not be happier.
"I would have had options to go elsewhere but everything here has been great and I have enjoyed my time here," Hyypia told the Liverpool Echo.
"It's not so common for a foreign player in this country to spend 10 years at one club so I am delighted to stay with this great club.
"We will see what next year brings. I will keep working hard and keep myself fit and whenever the manager needs me I will be there."
