Chelsea attacker admits pressure is on against Fenerbahce

Salomon Kalou admits Chelsea 'have to get it right' in both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

Chelsea have cut the gap at the top of the table to three points and face leaders Manchester United at Stamford Bridge later this month.

Before that, the Blues will be trying to overturn a 2-1 deficit in the Champions League quarter-finals when hosting Fenerbahce on Tuesday evening.

Kalou is aware of the task facing the Chelsea squad, but is determined to help the club advance to the final in Moscow in May.

Final aim

"We are all aware of the situation against Fenerbahce, we've got to get it right," Kalou told L'Equipe.

"We have to score early to put them under pressure. However, if we play as we did in Turkey, it will be difficult.

"The media will say that qualification will save our coach, but for us players, our responsibility is just to help the club reach a Champions League semi-final because our aim is the great final.

"It is true we had a good last weekend in the Premier League. We can still compete for the national title and we have always believed so.

"When you are second in the English League - the best in the world - and three points behind Man Utd, you can't talk about a bad season.

"But in that competition, too, we've got to get it right."

Kalou has largely been competing with Florent Malouda for a spot in the Chelsea team this season and the Ivory Coast attacker admits it is important he proves his worth when he is picked.

Best asset

"The competition is tough at the club," continued Kalou. "My only solution has been to work hard and be decisive each time I have an opportunity.

"It has happened that way. When there were absences, I scored important goals.

"Florent Malouda played at Fenerbahce and had a good performance, helping to create the first goal.

"Everyone has opportunities. However, it is difficult for Florent because left wing is his best position, but not me. I am more a centre-forward, but I feel at ease in the centre, on the right or the left - maybe that is my best asset."
