McCulloch: In confident mood

Rangers forward Lee McCulloch says their win over Werder Bremen made them believe that they could win the Uefa Cup.

Ahead of Thursday's quarter-final second leg clash with Sporting Lisbon, McCulloch says belief is high that Rangers can go all the way in this season's competition.

The Scottish giants were tipped to bow out against Bremen in the last 16, but Rangers earned a hard-fought 2-1 aggregate victory to dump out one of the favourites to lift the Uefa Cup.

Rangers go into their game in Lisbon with the tie delicately balanced after a goalless draw in the first leg at Ibrox and McCulloch says Sporting are not as good as some of the sides the Gers have already dispatched of on their way to the last eight.

"After the Bremen game we started thinking we could do something," said McCulloch.

Confidence booster

"They were one of the favourites, one of the best teams in the competition and it was a big confidence booster for us.

"Of the teams left in the tournament not many are as good as Bremen were so we can do it. It's just a case of going out and proving it.

"The first game was the first time Sporting Lisbon hadn't scored away from home so I think you have to take the positive from that.

"The Panathinaikos game was a similar scenario - we had to go over there and score and that was enough for us.

"I think it could be the same this time as well. Sporting are obviously a good team but I don't think they are as good a side as we played in the earlier rounds.

"We will go there with confidence in the hope that one goal will be good enough to take us through."
