Gordon: Wants one more win

Craig Gordon believes one more win will be enough to secure Sunderland's Premier League status.

Roy Keane's side have moved 10 points clear of the drop zone after consecutive victories over Aston Villa, West Ham and Fulham.

With just five games remaining, most pundits feel the Stadium of Light will be hosting top-flight football once again next season, but goalkeeper Gordon is not relaxing just yet.

Manchester City travel to the North East on Saturday, where Gordon wants the home supporters to play their part in another victory.

Close

He told The Shields Gazette: "We're close but we're not safe yet, I'll feel a lot better if we win on Saturday.

"We're on a great wee run and we have a winnable game next so we're focused on getting the three points against City.

"There will be another big crowd and the fans certainly won't let us slacken off. We've a decent home record and with the backing we get we can make it four in a row.

"It shows the size of this club. We are getting 45,000 when we are in the bottom half. If we progress, it will only get better."

All Black Cats

Meanwhile, Keane will spend time with the New Zealand rugby union side in June as part of his ongoing coaching qualifications.

Keane is studying for his UEFA Pro licence and as part of the course is required to spend some time learning about coaching in a different sport.

Keane said: "What level of involvement I can have, just watching training or whatever, I don't know.

"I have the green light to have three or four days with them. I don't know if I will be allowed into any team talks. I'll keep my head down and just watch them, try to plug into what they are all about."
