Bailey: Possible new deal
Southend have opened contract talks with star midfielder Nicky Bailey in a bid to tie him to a new long-term contract.
The former Barnet man moved to Roots Hall in January 2007 when The Shrimpers paid £175,000 for the all-action midfielder.
Bailey has played a huge part in Southend's push for promotion back to the Championship - but his performances have not gone unnoticed.
Skysports.com understand that Southend fended off interest last month when the transfer window closed - with several Championship outfits keen.
Burnley, Watford, Crystal Palace, Queens Park Rangers and Charlton are amongst those who are believed to be keen on taking Bailey - just over 12 months after he left League Two.
Bailey's representative Tony Finnigan confirmed there was interest in his client, but that talks were ongoing over a new deal.
"We have heard of interest in Nicky, which is only natural given his performances," Finnigan told skysports.com.
"Southend also realise this and as such have opened talks about extending Nicky's contract."
