Defoe: Focused

Portsmouth striker Jermain Defoe has backed his team-mates to claim a fifth-placed Premier League finish.

Pompey currently lie sixth in the table, trailing fifth-placed Everton by four points with four games remaining.

Harry Redknapp's side have enjoyed a terrific season to date, with May's FA Cup final against Cardiff drawing nearer.

But Defoe, who is cup-tied for the Wembley showpiece, has urged his team-mates to focus on their league run-in.

Achievable

"We just want to keep our decent run going right up until the end of the season," he said on the club's official website.

"I think that fifth place is definitely still achievable for us. Everton have some hard games coming up where they could drop points.

"But we just need to concentrate on our own performances and make sure we keep picking up points.

"If we can do that then we'll just have to wait and see where we finish up, but fifth place is still there for the taking."
