Ferguson: Relieved to secure promotion

Darren Ferguson believes Peterborough United fully deserve to have secured promotion out of League Two.

A 1-0 win at Hereford United on Saturday clinched a place in League One next season, alongside current leaders Milton Keynes Dons.

Posh boss Ferguson is in his first full season in charge at London Road and was delighted to be able to celebrate the club's promotion.

"We've got over the finish line," Ferguson told Sky Sports News. "We could have done it last week, but we've done it today and it's a great feeling.

Elation

"It's just complete elation. It's been a long season and we just wanted to get over the finish line.

"We had to keep the players really relaxed this week and all credit to them, they've put in another really good performance.

"I don't think anyone can deny we've definitely deserved to get promoted."

Craig Mackail-Smith, who has scored 18 goals in all competitions this season, was equally delighted to have secured promotion.

The striker said: "I can't explain it. We wanted the whistle to go on the bench and when it went everyone was jumping up and down for joy.

"We knew we had been promoted and it's a great feeling."
