Cole: Wants to stay

Carlton Cole admits the West Ham United players are 'fighting' for their futures, but the striker wants to stay at Upton Park.

The Hammers have endured a frustrating season in the Premier League, with injuries severely hampering the team's push for European football.

Manager Alan Curbishley has come in for criticism from Hammers fans in recent weeks and changes are expected in the summer.

Cole, whose winner against Derby on Saturday was just his fourth Premier League goal of the season, is hoping he will not be one of the players discarded.

Disappointed

"We're all disappointed that we haven't been able to push higher up the table and there could be a few worried people at the club this summer," admitted Cole in The Sun.

"We're all fighting for our futures. It's up to the manager who goes and who stays, but I'm contracted to West Ham for another two years and I want to stay here."

The former Chelsea striker also expects fierce competition for a spot in the team, once Curbishley has a full squad to choose from.

He added: "We have got to fight all the time. We have had a lot of injuries this season and a few players that have not really played a big part in the season.

"They are going to want to get in the team next season and try and push for places. There is going to be lots of competition."
