Gabriel Heinze has backed Real Madrid's interest in former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, but admits a move is likely to be 'impossible'.

The Manchester United forward has been in inspired form this season, propelling his side to the top of the Premier League with 28 goals.

Real sporting director Predrag Mijatovic has made no secret of his desire to bring Ronaldo to the Bernabeu, however he has admitted a deal is unlikely to be struck in the near future.

And Heinze, who played alongside Ronaldo during his three-year stint at Old Trafford, has also conceded that a transfer is improbable.

"I would sign him, but I think it's impossible," he told Spanish newspaper AS.

Glorious

"While Cristiano is at the level he's at, and knowing Alex Ferguson, I think it is very difficult for Madrid to get him.

"He's going through a glorious spell at Manchester and Ferguson was the one who found him and who got him to the top level.

"While Ferguson's there, there's little chance of signing him.

"I'd love to play alongside him again. And he's a kid who's always spoken highly of Madrid, but at Manchester he's coming on in leaps and bounds and it's normal that he wouldn't want to move.

"He's young and he has plenty of time to come here."
