Bentley: Expected to stay

Mark Hughes has reiterated that Blackburn Rovers are under no pressure to sell David Bentley in the summer.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool following an impressive campaign at Ewood Park.

He is also establishing himself in Fabio Capello's England plans as he looks to claim David Beckham's spot on the right flank.

But, despite the increase in Bentley's profile, Rovers boss Hughes is confident that the club can hang on to the former Arsenal youngster.

Blackburn have been discussing a new contract with the 23-year-old and Hughes expects the player to still be at the club next season.

Good contract

"We don't have to sell David Bentley and we aren't looking to sell him," said Hughes.

"The speculation happens every year with our better players, but if you look back, not many have ultimately been allowed to go.

"That's because we know we will be weakened as a consequence, so we are not looking to sell any of our major players and I don't expect it to happen.

"David Bentley has a good contract here and there is good length on that contract, so we don't have to sell."
