Frank Lampard is back in training and could feature for Chelsea against Liverpool on Wednesday.

The midfielder sat out the Blues' top of the table clash with Manchester United at the weekend following the death of his mother from pneumonia last Thursday.

Despite missing the 2-1 victory over the Red Devils the England international is understood to have trained on Sunday, and will rejoin the rest of the squad for a full session on Monday.

If he is deemed to be in a suitable condition to resume first-team action he could he handed an immediate return for the second leg of Chelsea's UEFA Champions League semi-final with Liverpool.

Avram Grant's side are looking to reach the final of the competition for the first time and will be keen to have their inspirational midfielder within their ranks.

They hold a narrow advantage heading into the Stamford Bridge showdown, after the Reds' John Arne Riise put through his own net in the dying seconds of the first encounter to hand them a crucial away goal in a tie which is delicately poised at 1-1.
