Carlos Queiroz has no plans to leave Manchester United to take over as coach of Benfica.

The United assistant manager has been strongly linked with the Benfica job since Jose Antonio Camacho left earlier this year.

Benfica were understood to have made Queiroz their top choice for the role, but acknowledged the difficulty in prising him away from Old Trafford.

And Queiroz has now confirmed that he does not intend to quit his position as Sir Alex Ferguson's right-hand man.

"I have a contract and I intend to fulfil it," said Queiroz in the Daily Mail.

With Benfica having been aware of the problems in trying to appoint Queiroz, Manchester City boss Sven Goran Eriksson has been mooted as the favourite for the post.

Eriksson has previously had two spells in charge of the Portuguese giants and is expected to leave City at the end of the season.
