Sven Goran Eriksson has thanked Manchester City fans for their support but admits it may not be enough for him to hold on to his job.

The Swede's long-term future as City boss is in severe doubt, with reports suggesting he will be sacked after the final game of the Premier League season.

Eriksson has enjoyed an encouraging first campaign at Eastlands, but appears to have failed to impress owner Thaksin Shinawatra, who bought the club last year.

City fans voiced their strong support for Eriksson during Sunday's 1-0 defeat at Liverpool, although the manager has conceded their 'fantastic' backing might be in vain.

Incredible

"The support from the fans was fantastic, as it has been all season," said Eriksson.

"It was incredible and made me stand up from the bench a lot. Will it make any difference? I don't think it will but we have one week to go.

"I haven't spoken to the owner in the last few days. We spoke last Sunday and that was it. I think we will talk again after next week.

"The time for me to talk more about myself will be next Monday. You will have to wait one week, that's not long. I have not been told not to talk about it - at my age I don't need to be told what to do.

"I accepted this position because it was a project. I thought it would be a fantastic to be building something new.

"The target was to finish 10th and we can't finish lower than that now."
