Commons: In demand
Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood has spoken of his desire to keep Kris Commons at the promoted club as he bids to reach the Premier League.
The talented left-winger is believed to be a target of East Midlands rivals Derby but Calderwood wants the 24-year-old to help his side jump out of the Championship.
While Derby can pay more than Forest for his services - believed to be around £9,000 a week - Calderwood thinks the player will stay with a side which is on the up.
The Forest boss told The Sun: "I think I know where Kris' heart lies.
"He and Sammy Clingan are out of contract this summer, and myself and the club will be doing everything we possibly can to persuade them to sign on again."
While resisting Derby's moves for Commons, Calderwood is set to plunder the relegated Rams for striker Rob Earnshaw.
The Forest boss wants to add several recruitments to his squad as he aims to get the team to the Premier League.
He added: "We need every good player we can get. Does that include a bid for Earnshaw? Well, I'm after a goalscorer and Rob Earnshaw fits that description.
"This Forest squad has to go up to another level with the help of three or four experienced reinforcements. I want integrity and enthusiasm.
"Chairman Nigel Doughty is a strong character, and he always thought we could achieve promotion. With that in mind, we have a plan A in place.
"The budget is decided. We aim to go again. When Nottingham Forest are on a roll, this is the place to be."
Commons scored the second goal in the 3-2 victory over Yeovil, which clinched his side the second automatic promotion berth out of League One.
He said: "This has been an amazing effort by a tremendous bunch of people.
"It's a fabulous feeling to have done it after all, when we trailed in the table at one stage. I can't wait to be back in the Championship."
