Milan players: Flamini and Gattuso

Milan have pledged that midfielder Gennaro Gattuso will not be forced out by the signing of Arsenal star Mathieu Flamini.

The Frenchman -nicknamed 'Gattuso' by his former Arsenal team-mates - has joined the Italian giants on a four-year deal after securing a free transfer from the Gunners.

This has led to speculation concerning the real Gattuso - the industrious Italian international - who is one of Milan's key players.

But Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has dismissed fears that Flamini's move will force Gattuso out.

Any position

He said: "Flamini is not here to replace Gattuso. He can play in any position in midfield."

The speculation has come after Gattuso said last week that he would love to play in the English Premier League if he was to leave Milan.

The tough-tackling midfielder has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, with Old Trafford boss Sir Alex Ferguson a confirmed admirer.
