Maniche: Missing from Portugal squad
Portugal coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has named his 23-man squad for the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland.
Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo will be hoping to continue his club heroics on the international stage next month after making the squad and he is joined by Old Trafford team-mate Nani.
Chelsea new boy Jose Bosingwa joins Blues duo Ricardo Carvalho and Paulo Ferreria in the final squad.
The only surprise absentee is Internazionale midfielder Maniche who played a key role in the Portugal side that reach the final of Euro 2004 and the semi-finals of the 2006 World Cup.
Valencia defender Marco Caneira also misses out with Boavista's Jorge Ribeiro getting the nod.
Reserve goalkeeper Rui Patricio is the only uncapped player in the squad.
Scolari admits Ronaldo goes into the tournament in great form and as argubaly the best player on the planet.
"I cannot guarantee he will be in the same form as he has been having at Manchester United," said Scolari.
"In the national team he plays alongside players with different characteristics to the ones he plays with at Manchester United. But there is no doubt that he is in great form."
Scolari is confident in his squad selection with Portugal facing co-hosts Switzerland, Turkey and Czech Republic in Group A
"I have total confidence in the choices I have made and in the abilities of the players I have chosen," added Scolari.
