Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken of his admiration for Real Madrid in a candid interview that will alert the Spanish giants and alarm Sir Alex Ferguson.

Madrid have made no secret of their admiration for the PFA and Football Writers' Player of the Year and it would appear the feeling is reciprocated - with Ronaldo refusing to rule out playing in Spain in the future.

A wonderful campaign for the Portuguese has seen Manchester United retain the Premier League title, while they could make it a double on Wednesday evening should they see off Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final in Moscow.

It was only earlier in the week that Ronaldo moved to play down speculation over a switch to Madrid, with the 23-year-old keen to reaffirm his commitment to Old Trafford.

Madrid have consistently voiced their interest and reports have suggested they would be prepared to part with in the region of £100million.

Ronaldo admits he will weigh up his future after the Moscow showpiece, having conceded his love of Spanish football.

Committed but curious

"It is always important that other teams like you, it gives you motivation. The other teams say your name all the time, say they will give you this - it is good," Ronaldo told Sky Sports News, when quizzed on Madrid's interest.

"I have said 1,000 times, I am very happy here. I want to stay in Manchester. This is my role but the future - nobody knows. Only God knows.

"I have said 10,000 times I have a dream to play in Spain, but sometimes dreams do not come true. I still dream, I still dream.

"I am happy at Manchester United, but the future? You never know.

When pushed on whether he could guarantee United supporters that he will be in Manchester next season, Ronaldo offered: "I am happy here, but the future - who knows?"

What is important for the club(MANU) is good team ..its better to lose star(ronaldo) than good team...his presence or absence will be indifferent to the club..since ferguson will bring in good players only but we could see good players on the bench while he is playing..anyways,so far so good for ronaldo and MANU..CHEERS!!

Carl Trumpess says...

I would love Ronaldo to end his career at Manchester United. But the fact is that he was born in Madeira, Portugal. For five years he has endured good old "sunny" Manchester and i've got a horrible feeling that the climate of Madrid may tempt him further. I've watched three players i have rated highly get snapped up from Manchester to Madrid in the sales of David Beckham, Ruud van Nistelrooy and Gabriel Heinze. I just hope, for atleast a few more seasons, Ronaldo stays at the theatre of dreams.

As much as I would love to see Ronaldo stay with us, for obvious reasons, I believe that if a player is not 100% committed to United then its best they leave. No matter how great the player, one man does not make a team and we cannot afford disharmony within the ranks. Cantona was fantastic, Beckham was great, Keane irreplaceable...but as a club we survived. Personally I think we will have a few more years of his skills to admire yet...but once that 100% slips.....let him go, without hesitation.

Ben Smith (Manchester United fan) says...

Its common knowledge that ronaldo fancies Real Madrid. This is a big issue because the media make it one. I think he will stay at United for 2-4 years yet and i expect this story to build more and more at the end of every season until he finally goes. Similar to the Henry situation with Barcelona over a few seasons. I think when it happens the man utd fans should respect his decision, what hes done for the club and also the fact that hes alway been honest about his ambitions. Also they should all remember the similar worries of losing Beckham, in 2003 and who would replaced him? And who did replace him? Ronaldo! There will always be great talents in the game and with a hundread million pounds id hope a top manager could find them. With the history and success of Manchester United, there is no reason why the next world star wont dream of being a red in the same way Ronaldo longs to be a white.

Liam Ineson (Manchester United fan) says...

Ronaldo is awesome, himself alone has brought man utd 25 points + this season and has brought united out of the gutter on many occasions. I think sir alex should keep him for at least the next 2/3 years if contract permitting and then see which next bright young superstar he can unveil. We all know sir alex is special and brings out the best of youngsters but he aint going to be at club forever.

Daniel Coussens (Manchester United fan) says...

I feel that ronaldo has always had admiration for the spanish football league, but he has a contract till 2012 and i think sir alex would expect him to stick to his contract at least for another 2 years. Also ronaldo said he wants to stay, so unless sir alex wishes to sell him (which i doubt)- ronaldo will be playing for manchester united for another few seasons yet

Ahmed Khota (Manchester United fan) says...

If I were in charge of United, I would not sell Ronaldo for a billion pounds! He is the best player in the world. We need him at least until he is 29 and past his peak. He is irreplaceable! Ronaldo please dont go!

Andrew Caie (Manchester United fan) says...

I don't feel you can spend you whole career at one club.. People want the experience... and the lad wants to play in Spain, let him go.. there will come a point where he cant do anything more.. All the awards, all the trophies... 100m we can replace him... He is really good, but no one it irreplaceable.... and if he wants to go he will... But i don't think it will be a few years yet. I just wonder if he will do a Beckham or a Owen. They left and were never the same (well becks is still good, but not what he was under SAF, he has a way with talent to keep them on their best.)

Eran Ahmet (Manchester United fan) says...

I think ronaldo is a great talent also world class i would hate to see him leave but like the lad said no one knows what the future holds for you but to get so many goals this season is great for him because he can go on and break records because he has the talent to do that also he is part of a very special man utd side well thats all i can say about this if he does leave he has my best wishes as long as he don't score against us just joking good luck lad.

Ibrahim Ageed (Manchester United fan) says...

Ronaldo is an amazing talent and if he wants to go to spain no problem Sir Alex created many lengengry players and before Ronaldo came to Manchester he was not the talent that he is now its beacuse great players have great mangers and Manchester could get another Ronaldo ormaybe better than him.

Anoop Soukhee (Liverpool fan) says...

I think that this lad has done an extra-ordinary work at Man Utd. His passion for playing in La Liga might change his way towards spain. But yet he has made himself a great player, ever since he had joined Man Utd.. For hundred million pouds Man Utd must consider.. May be next season another great player is prepared to fuel the score sheet

Guru Iyer (Manchester United fan) says...

Many players have come and gone and Man Utd. have still won trophies. Secondly the way Man Utd. play, they depends on mid-fielders to feed the strikers. If Ronaldo goes to Real Madrid it will not make any difference to Man Utd. They will still continue to win trophies. See 2 years back Ruud Van Nistelroy left for Real Madrid and Man Utd. won the league. Man Utd. never depends on any one player. So if Ronaldo wants to go, Man Utd. should allow him and make good money out of him and bring some fresh young players.

Daniel Bell (Bolton Wanderers fan) says...

I think the United fans are being a bit too generous & polite regards this subject. It's like the ego has superceded the player. No doubt fantastic, great goals record / assists. But for me United have allowed themselves to become reliant on this guy into almost dare I say 'one man team'. Of course they have all round great ability & a very strong squad but people soon forget & I for one can't remember the last time they so proudly shared the goals which was a Man United trait. Anyway, what I'm getting at is the guy wants to play for Madrid...face it, no accolades or money can colour this fact & you have to be honest, We heard it from the horses mouth. Hand on heart, we have to acknowledge there was a gulf in class between Messi & Ron at Old Trafford which shouldn't be ignored, you don't need to be throwing your foot all over the place doing an Irish Jig to beat a man... People who think like me know Maradonna was the greatest & Zidane was the moden great & not Henry. Which makes me certain that Messi is the best & the multitude of goals has in fact made ron the 'worlds best'. A couple of things I would like to see next season. Rooney getting booked for calling the ref a F*in W*ker to his face on camera, & Chelsea stop punting it to the cheating Drogba. (& a side note these garbage Frank Warren cards on TV, bring back real boxing!). Best

I think Ronaldo is the best ever player and it will be a sad day for the Club and his fans alike if he decides to go by next season. I really hope he stays at Old Trafford for a few more years.

Dylan Mercieca (Manchester United fan) says...

I think Ronaldo should see what happened to Beckham, Stam, and Ince they never reached the form of what they had with Man Utd... that could happen to him too. He's the world's best at the moment and a move to Real Madrid is not the right choice!

John Nyaga (Manchester United fan) says...

I think for 100m, Ferguson should consider. The boy is exceptional but stars are born and come through every day. Who knows, may be just like Ronaldo says, only God knows. By this time next year, he could be down in form and worth 20 million pounds. May be there will be another 'Devil' who will step up and fit in his shoes. If Real are serious, let them have him. You heard the boy- he wants to go there, sometimes. Why not when he is worth that much?

John Mason (Manchester United fan) says...

Everyone has known for ages he wants to play for real madrid, all he is doing here is repeating that after the question was asked. There is no doubt that Ronaldo will be at old trafford for a few years yet. No worries at all!!!

Danny Smith (Norwich City fan) says...

Fair play to the lad! He will go to Real Madrid in due course without a doubt, but not just yet...Manchester Utd need not worry, the lad will be around for some time just yet! Just remember to respect his wishes when he decides to leave.

Jude Davis (Arsenal fan) says...

This is the 1st time that Ronaldo has come out and openly said that he is not 100% sure if he will be there next season (probably will be though), winning the CL with Utd might complete what he feels he needs to do there and see him off to Madrid. If Real came up with the money and he wanted to go it would be very difficult to stop him. Real have generally got what they wanted in the past when it comes to signing their "Galacticos", Man Utd fans your thoughts?
