Campbell: Fighter

Sol Campbell insists that he is enjoying his football again after being rejuvenated at Portsmouth.

The towering centre-half suffered a loss of confidence, and form, during his latter years at Arsenal, but since linking up Pompey he has rediscovered his passion for the game and his performances have benefited as a result.

He has helped Harry Redknapp's side to become an established top-half team in the Premier League and is currently preparing for an FA Cup final date with Cardiff on Saturday.

With life looking rosy on the South Coast, Campbell has dismissed rumours that he is set for a summer switch to pastures new and has every intention of remaining at Fratton Park for the foreseeable future.

Staying

"I've got another year on my contract here and can definitely see myself staying on at Portsmouth," the England international told The Guardian.

"I'm enjoying life but still working hard on and off the pitch.

"That's the one thing I have to do more as I've got older - work hard to make sure everything is right."

Pressure

Campbell also believes that the drive and determination at Portsmouth to become a successful outfit is one of the reasons why he has found it so easy to adapt to life under Redknapp.

"I've been enjoying my football more since I came here but that doesn't mean there isn't pressure, there is pressure wherever you play," he continued.

"Arsenal always needed to win but the guys here also want to win, we don't just want to be mid-table every year, we want to keep pushing on and see what we can get out of our careers."

Respect

Campbell has enjoyed a distinguished 16-year professional career, and hopes that his exploits with England, Tottenham, Arsenal and Portsmouth will see him remembered as a defender who always gave his all.

"I hope I've got a lot of respect from people," he said.

"I'm a fighter and I'll always keep fighting. My attitude is right and I've been doing things properly since I was 14 at Lilleshall.

"That's who I am, a proper footballer who respects the game."
