James: Happy with Capello

David James believes Fabio Capello's serious demeanour is ideal for England, having grown exasperated by Steve McClaren's cosy regime.

The Portsmouth goalkeeper has seen his international prospects rejuvenated since disciplinarian Capello was appointed to the helm in the wake of England's failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

Capello has a reputation for drawing a clear line between players and management; cultivating an image of not suffering fools gladly in the process.

James admits such an approach is a breath of fresh air, of the opinion that players like to know who the boss is after the 'pally-pally' approach of previous incumbents.

"I have had managers in the past who have been so pally-pally with the players that you question their selection," James told The Sun.

"Is that a suggestion favouritism has occurred? Yes, I suppose.

"But it's not like that with Mr Capello. He's the boss but he doesn't want to be one of the lads. And I respect that.

Pally-pally

"His information is brief, concise and understandable. But there isn't this rapport where he'll have a joke when he walks past.

"I saw him at the PFA do the other week. I went over to say hello and he goes 'Oh, hi' and walked off!

"He's one of the best managers of all time and he can repeat that success at international level.

"I particularly like the fact he can delegate his duties and responsibilities throughout his coaching staff.

"A good manager shouldn't try to do it all on his own."
