Bristol City's Bradley Orr insists he will be back to training in two weeks after an operation on his depressed fractured cheekbone.

The 25-year-old was stretchered off in their Championship play-off final defeat on Saturday after a challenge with Hull City's Nick Barmby.

Now the former Newcastle and Burnley man is hoping to make a quick return to training but admits the injury was painful.

"The operation went really well," Bradley told the club's official website. "I broke my eye socket in three places and my cheekbone too.

Painful injury

"I'm fine and I should be back to running in two weeks' time. I look like the Elephant Man and will have to wear a mask for pre-season but apart from that I'm fine.

"I remember the challenge and at the time it was painful, but I wanted the adrenalin to get me through it.

"It wasn't a muscle injury or anything so I was determined to continue."

Orr continued playing after picking up the injury but he admits the pain became too much that he had to be substituted.

Bounce back

He also revealed his disappointment at City's play-off final defeat but insists the side can build on their first season in the Championship.

Orr added: "Before half-time the pain was so much that it made me feel physically sick and when Nobes (David Noble) and Marvin (Elliott) were shouting at me for not tracking a runner I knew I couldn't continue.

"I'm just sorry we couldn't get the job done at Wembley, but I'm just looking forward to next season now where we want to bounce back stronger."
