David Beckham was pleased to play his part in England's 2-0 victory over USA but admitted there was still a lingering disappointment over the failure to qualify for Euro 2008.

While other sides are preparing for this summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland, England can only look forward to their World Cup qualifiers later this year.

They cruised to victory over USA at Wembley with David Beckham setting up John Terry for the opening goal and Steven Gerrard adding the second.

"In the first half we found it tough to break then down and keep the ball but in the second half I think we passed it a lot better," Beckham told Sky Sports News.

"It is important that we win these games and keep performing but there is still a lot of disappointment that we are not in the European championships."

Terry missed a penalty in the UEFA Champions League final last week and Beckham was happy to see him score on a night when he also captained his country.

"It is something we have worked on all week. We know we have got players to score the goals and it is up to me or other players to deliver the free-kicks into the right positions," Beckham said of his assist.

"Everyone felt for him after the European Cup final but he has been upbeat this week and he will move on.

"He is one of the strongest characters that I've met in football.

"To get the captain's armband and to score will have meant a lot to him but he'll still be hurting and he'll still need a lot of support.

"But we were all pleased for him."

Beckham made his 101st appearance for England and before kick-off he was presented with a commemorative golden cap by Sir Bobby Charlton for reaching the milestone.

He commented: "I was proud to get the 100th cap and it was also a proud moment to receive something like that from Sir Bobby Charlton."
