Owen: Praise for Keegan

Michael Owen is convinced Newcastle United could not have asked for a better manager than Kevin Keegan.

The Magpies brought Keegan back to St James' Park for a second spell as boss in January following the departure of Sam Allardyce.

Though Keegan struggled to immediately improve results, Newcastle finished the Premier League season with a flourish.

Owen is confident there is more to come from Keegan next term and has also praised the former England coach's tactical acumen.

Fantastic appointment

"He has had a massive impact," said Owen.

"It was never going to happen straight away. Not only did we have some tough games, but when he came, we had a lot of players low on confidence.

"But if you could ever ask for a man to pick people up and get the best out of them, it's Kevin Keegan.

"He obviously knows his stuff. He can see a player and he can see things that need tweaking.

"Tactically, he is very good. I think he has been a fantastic appointment for us and we have all enjoyed his time so far."
