Cardiff confident over duo

Fowler and Hasselbaink offered contract extensions

Peter Ridsdale is confident that Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will agree new deals at Cardiff.

The duo's current contracts are due to expire this summer, but the Bluebirds chairman expects the pair to accept the 'reduced terms' which have been offered to them.

Fowler, who struggled with niggling injuries throughout the 2007/08 campaign, has been offered a pay-as-you-play contract, while Hasselbaink must also take a pay cut to stay at Ninian Park.

Opportunity

Ridsdale is keen for the club to build on their impressive showings last term, which included an FA Cup final appearance, and is aware that retaining the services of their veteran strike-force would substantially help their cause.

"The two players want to remain at the club and be part of what we are trying to do and they each know the new terms of their contracts," the chairman told South Wales Echo.

"If they want to take the opportunity on, they will be on reduced terms compared with last season."
