Johnson: Staying on

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has pledged his future to the Championship club.

It had been feared the former Yeovil and Latvia boss could leave this summer after narrowly failing to guide the club into the Premier League via the play-offs.

However, despite the speculation surrounding the 52-year-old's future, Johnson has allayed fans' fears by stating he will be at Ashton Gate next season.

Asked if he will be around next season, Johnson told the club's official website: "Of course. When a club is successful it (speculation) can surround the manager and certain players.

No worries

"There's nothing out there that anyone needs to be worried about. We never know what may happen in the future but certainly my thoughts are with the long-term future of this football club."

Despite the disappointment of losing to Hull City at Wembley, Johnson is still making reaching England's top flight his priority despite just one campaign in the Championship.

"We've got to get to that Premier League," he continued. "I've said before that I wouldn't be anywhere where I didn't feel there was progress being made.

"Obviously no one enjoyed the feeling of losing that [play-off] final, but we realised that this club had moved that far forward probably earlier than most people would have expected - other than us."
