Commons: Seals Derby switch

Derby County have completed the capture of Kris Commons from rivals Nottingham Forest on a free transfer.

Commons helped win promotion for Forest last season, but will now be entrusted to help Derby back into the Premier League.

The 24-year-old is Derby's sixth signing of the summer following the arrivals of Ruben Zadkovich, Paul Connolly, Nathan Ellington, Jordan Stewart and Paul Green.

Gem of a signing

Manager Paul Jewell, who came under fire last season for failing to win a game after replacing Billy Davies, has labelled the winger as a 'gem of a signing'.

"This is a gem of a signing for us and a terrific boost that Kris has chosen to join Derby over the numerous other clubs who were also keen to secure his signature," he told the club's official website.

"He is a player who can unlock doors; he has that 'X-factor', a genuine match-winner.

"When I met him I was also impressed with his hunger and desire to improve and play at the highest level. I like his ambition and his drive."
