Dean Ashton has ended speculation over his long-term future by signing a new five-year deal at West Ham.

The talented striker won his first England cap against Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday and has now capped a good week by agreeing fresh terms at Upton Park.

It had been suggested the likes of Manchester United and Newcastle were weighing up an approach for the 24-year-old.

However, having committed to the East End club until 2013, Ashton has spoken of how his first choice was always to stay at The Hammers.

Contented Hammer

"I am delighted. I said all along that I wanted to sign," he told the club's official website.

"I feel I have still got a lot to show the football club and the fans. I am really happy that I have signed and now I can look forward to next season.

"It is a fantastic way to end the season for me.

"It is not going to be on my mind now and with a five-year contract, the future is here.

"I said I wanted to stay at the end of the season and I am really glad it has been done so professionally and sorted now."

Duxbury delighted

Hammers chief executive Scott Duxbury said: "I am delighted that we have agreed this new contract with Dean. It underlines the ambition of the club to progress and challenge at the top end of the Premier League.

"Dean is an important part of our plans for the for the new season and beyond.

"We are looking forward to seeing him scoring plenty of goals for West Ham United in the future."

Pal zico hasnt got a clue about football. He is a liverpool fan who probably lives in London and who has never been to a liverpool game. By the way great that Ashton signed, quality player. Seen as the new Shearer/sheringham

glad to see deano has signed, all we need is to sell zamora and cole and bring in some better partners for deano as bellamy will no doubt get injured again. we need a proven goal scorer as thats what lets us down

Very over rated player in my books.. hasn'd done or won anything.. can't see what the fuss is all about. It's players like these who inflate the football market

brilliant news, this shows the ambition of the west ham board, signing our brightest players on longer deals and not selling them on the cheap as a feeder club

It is good you stay where you are and sign a new deal than going to Manchester United to be on the bench. Well, goodluck Ashton for making use of your brain.

Michael Stephenson (West Ham United fan) says...

Im very glad Deano has decided to stay at West Ham. He is one of the best British forwards in the premiership and deserves to be at a club that will worship him and not have him sitting on the bench like some stars that only think about lining thier pockets. West Ham for life Mick

At last, a bit of good news coming out of Upton Park for a change, Dean Ashton is a big part of West Ham's future as well as England's dispite not having a very good debut. I for one, am delighted.

I'm delighted that Dean has kept his word and stayed. He could easily have used West Ham as a stepping stone as so many other talented player's have done,i'm sure he will be England's 1st choice striker at the 2010 world cup and a great player for us, come on you irons !!!

Ronny Linder (West Ham United fan) says...

Excellent! Good to have a fairly young and hungry player onboard. Now lets bring in a new striking partner for him! A good affordable choice would be Johan Elmander who is playing in Toulouse at the moment. He is strong, intelligent, technical and above all creative, which is a quality that we sourly miss up front. Also he already has experience playing with Ljungberg, and Achille Emana (another potential transfer target).

Mark Rule says...

I think that this is great news for the club because Dean is one of the best English strikers for a long time. He should be getting more caps for England. I'm glad to see that we are not selling all our good players anymore like every other season Keep up the good work, you've made this hammer a happy hammer Come on you Iron's

anyone who thinks that the likes on man utd are interested in dean ashton are either delusional or stupid. now newcastle are the type ofteam that would be interested as their a mid table team who are well below utd and above west ham

Stan Lozanov (Manchester United fan) says...

As a Man Utd supporter I would have loved to see Ashton join the team. If he can stay injury free for most part of the playing season I think he has all the qualities of becoming a great power forward. I wish he has a fabulous upcoming season and then I wanna see him wear the red jersey under SAF ;). Glory Glory Man Utd.

Great news! Anticipating fresh legs of ashton and bellamy cud be the start of a tenacious partnership

Jamie Walker (West Ham United fan) says...

Great news. At long last we've managed to keep hold of a decent player and not lost him to one of the big clubs who let good academy clubs do all the work and pinch the player. I know Dean has come thro' Crewe and Norwich but we have lost too many good players in the past (Fredinand, Lampard, Cole, Johnson to name but 4). I wouldn't have been surprised if Man U or Liverpool had come in for him. We may be paying inflated wages but if that's what we have to do to keep these players and the powers that be are happy to do so then so be it. Let's hope we can have an injury free season and see what we can do.
