Saints snap up Holmes

First signing for new Saints boss

Last updated: 6th June 2008

Southampton have completed the signing of midfielder Lee Holmes from Derby.

The 21-year-old has passed a medical at St Mary's and put-pen-to-paper after his contract with the Rams expired.

Holmes became County's youngest-ever player when he appeared against Grimsby on Boxing Day 2006 aged just 15 years and 268 days.

He has also enjoyed successful loan spells at Bradford, Swindon and Walsall.

Holmes is the first signing Southampton have made since unveiling Dutchman Jan Poortvliet as their new head coach.

Perry deal

Meanwhile, Southampton have completed the permanent signing of veteran defender Chris Perry.

The former Tottenham and Wimbledon man joined Southampton on loan at the back end of last season and helped them steer clear of relegation.

Southampton have decided to make his move permanent by signing the 35-year-old on a free transfer from Luton.
