The agent of Shola Ameobi insists that Newcastle have not accepted a £4million bid from Ipswich for the striker.

Ameobi is expected to leave St James' Park this summer and it was reported on Monday that Ipswich had made a successful offer for the former England Under 21 international.

Speculation increased when Ipswich declined to comment on the rumours, but Ameobi's agent Steven Denos is adamant he has not received contact from Newcastle.

"As far as I'm concerned, Ipswich have not put a bid in for Shola," Denos told The Journal.

"There has certainly been no dialogue from Newcastle to me to the effect a bid has been submitted from any club at this stage.

"Our position is that we will be willing to talk to any club that puts a bid in to Newcastle that is acceptable."
