Fabregas: Not getting carried away

Cesc Fabregas insists Spain have achieved nothing yet in reaching the semi-finals of Euro 2008.

Spain are consistently tipped to impress in major finals, but more often then not fail to live up to expectations and find themselves on an early flight home.

Not this summer. Spain broke the curse on Sunday when they saw off world champions Italy in a penalty shoot-out to set up a semi-final clash with in-form Russia.

Achieved nothing

Despite breaking their hoodoo of exiting tournaments early, Arsenal star Fabregas insists Luis Aragones' side have not achieved anything yet.

"It's a great feeling of course because we've got to the semi-finals," he told the Sun. "But we haven't accomplished anything yet.

"We want to get to the final and that's why we have got to be patient. The job now is to beat Russia and get to the final.

"Once we get there anything can happen but we have to make sure that we go step by step."

Team player

Fabregas emerged off the bench in Sunday's famous win over the Azzurri and the rising star has no problems being used as a substitute in their crucial semi-final clash.

"As for my place in the team, I have no problem being on the bench," he continued.

"It's very difficult to get into the side. It's a very competitive side and the quality is really high. But I will be there when the coach needs me."
