Celtic could face a battle from Serie A side Lazio in their bid to tie down striker Georgios Samaras on a permanent deal

Samaras spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic from Manchester City, netting five SPL goals in the process.

Manager Gordon Strachan is reportedly keen to secure the Greek on a permanent basis this summer.

However, The Hoops may face competition in their quest to wrap up the deal after Lazio expressed their interest in signing the 23-year-old.

Deal

Lazio president Claudio Lotito said in the Daily Record: "Samaras is a player we're considering and we'll see what happens. I can confirm we're actively trying to sign a striker and hope to secure a deal for one any day soon."

Promoted side Lecce are also rumoured to be keen on Samaras as they plan for life in Serie A next season.

Meanwhile, goalkeeper Artur Boruc has hinted that his reported £15million price tag is likely to ward off any potential interest in his services.

Boruc added to his excellent reputation this summer following impressive displays for his country Poland at Euro 2008.

His performances have reportedly attracted the interest of a number of top European clubs, but Boruc, 28, is unaware of any official approaches having been made for his signature.

Boruc said: "The top 10 clubs in the world are prepared to pay £15m for a striker but not a keeper. But I don't know if any other club wants me. I had a good season with Celtic and we won the championship for the third time in a row.

"I enjoyed the experience of playing in the UEFA Champions League with Celtic and the European Championship with Poland although I was disappointed we didn't make the quarter-finals."
