Podolski: Wanted back in Cologne

Cologne will not give up in their ambitious bid to re-sign Lukas Podolski from Bayern Munich.

Podolski left Cologne for Bayern in 2006, but endured a frustrating past season at the Allianz Arena.

He is considering his future with the Bundesliga champions and is set to make a decision after Germany's Euro 2008 campaign.

The striker has claimed interest from Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur, while there have been reports he could be used as part of a swap deal for Stuttgart forward Mario Gomez.

Unrealistic

However, he could also be offered a return to his former club after Cologne coach Christoph Daum confirmed his desire to sign the 23-year-old.

Daum told the Kolner Express: "Even if it may sound unrealistic, we are not allowed to give up on it.

"We have to keep on it without kicking up too much of a fuss.

"We need signings in defence, midfield and in attack - we need strengthening in each."
