Fenerbahce have announced that they have agreed a two-year contract with outgoing Spain coach Luis Aragones.

The 69-year-old Aragones, who will step down from his post with the national side after Euro 2008, has guided his country to the semi-finals, where they will take on Russia on Thursday.

The Turkish club revealed the news on their official website, stating that preliminary contact was made with Aragones and his four-man coaching staff and that the deal would be finalised after this summer's tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

Aragones will fill the void left by Zico, who parted company with Fenerbahce after two years at the helm during which he guided the club to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League, where they were beaten by Chelsea.

Despite that effort in Europe, Zico's departure was blamed by many on the Istanbul outfit's failure to defend their league title, with bitter local rivals Galatasaray claiming the crown.

Spain may be less than impressed by the timing of the announcement, with Portugal exiting Euro 2008 shortly after Luiz Felipe Scolari was confirmed as the new manager of Chelsea.
