Kilmarnock midfielder Mehdi Taouil has agreed a new two-year deal with the club.

The Morocco international moved to Rugby Park from Montpellier last October, signing a one-year contract.

He made a good impression in a difficult campaign for Kilmarnock and there was speculation that he could be set to leave the club this summer.

However, Taouil has decided to stay with Kilmarnock until at least 2010 and will put pen-to-paper when he returns from France on Wednesday.

Manager Jim Jefferies has expressed his delight at the deal and backed Taouil to enjoy another good season.

"There was a lot of interest in him as he did well for us," Jefferies said in the Daily Record.

"He had a few other offers to consider but he likes it here and is keen to work with us.

"That's great for Kilmarnock as he has bags of ability and gives us a wee spark.

"By agreeing a two-year deal he has the chance to play regular football which is what he needs."
