Queiroz: Waiting

Manchester United assistant manager Carlos Queiroz says becoming Portugal's new coach is 'out of my hands'.

Queiroz is understood to be Portugal's top target to replace Luiz Felipe Scolari, who left his position after Euro 2008 to take charge of Chelsea.

Reports have claimed that Queiroz has already agreed to succeed Scolari, as talks continue between the Portuguese Football Federation and United.

The 55-year-old spoke to journalists upon his arrival at Lisbon Airport and says he is waiting for the Premier League champions to come to a decision with the federation.

Wait calmly

"I can say little more than you know at this time," Queiroz told Maisfutebol. "Currently, the matter is out of my hands.

"From my part, there is not much to say, it needs to be resolved between the federation and Manchester United.

"We must wait calmly. I have spoken with the two parties and now I wait for movement."

Queiroz is currently in his second spell as Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant, having returned to Old Trafford in 2004 after a disappointing season as Real Madrid's head coach.

He previously coached the Portuguese national team in the early 1990s after enjoying great success at youth level.
