Javier Zanetti believes Internazionale target Frank Lampard is a 'complete' player and a 'true champion'.

Inter are hoping to sign the Chelsea midfielder following former Blues manager Jose Mourinho's appointment as coach.

Mourinho has confirmed he wants to work with Lampard again and Inter are reportedly set to make an approach to Chelsea.

The Serie A champions' captain Zanetti is also a fan of Lampard and has suggested he would be welcome at the Giuseppe Meazza.

"I have played against him only at international level and he is a true champion," Zanetti told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"He defends, attacks and shoots well. There are very few players around who are as complete as he is."

Lampard has 12 months remaining on his current Stamford Bridge contract and has yet to agree an extension.

Chelsea are keen to hang on to the 30-year-old, with Mourinho previously admitting he expected a deal for the England international next summer.
