Burnley manager Owen Coyle is hoping to complete a deal for Manchester United winger Chris Eagles.

The Clarets are prepared to pay a club-record fee for the 22-year-old, but admit they face competition from another club.

Eagles has found opportunities limited at Old Trafford since making his debut in October 2003, and has not made a first-team appearance since last December.

He could cost Burnley more than the £1.3million they recently paid Scunthorpe for striker Martin Paterson, but Coyle believes it would be money well spent.

"It's a bit complicated in that there is another club interested in him, but he has real quality," Coyle said.

"We had a terrific meeting with him and his representative, obviously with permission from his club, because there would be a big fee involved in that."
