Trezeguet: Quitting international football
France striker David Trezeguet has retired from international football after Raymond Domenech was retained as coach.
Trezeguet was left out of France's Euro 2008 squad by Domenech and he claimed the decision was 'unacceptable and inexcusable'.
Les Bleus endured a torrid tournament in Austria & Switzerland and failed to progress beyond the group phase, prompting rumours Domenech would be replaced.
However, Domenech has been given the backing to lead France through the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, which has forced Juventus forward Trezeguet to halt his international career.
"Domenech is staying and I am quitting the national side," said Trezeguet at Juventus' pre-season training camp in Pinzolo.
"The awful European Championship and then the decision to stick with the coach has forced me to this decision.
"I see football differently to how they see it in France. Euro 2008 was very negative, but it was the faith in Domenech that really annoyed me.
"Decisions seemed to be made politically rather than for footballing reasons and the public opinion in my favour wasn't respected."
Trezeguet scored 34 goals in 71 appearances for France after making his international debut in January 1998 against Spain.
He was part of that year's World Cup-winning squad and also scored the decisive goal in the Euro 2000 final against Italy, while his final appearance came against England earlier this year.
