Atletico Madrid have suggested a bid to sign Hamburg midfielder Rafael van der Vaart could be 'very expensive'.

Reports in Spain have claimed that Atletico, who have qualified for the UEFA Champions League, have offered 15million euros (£11.9million) for Van der Vaart.

The Holland international has previously alluded to an interest in playing in Spain at some stage in his career after being linked with Valencia last season.

However, he could prove to be out of Atletico's reach despite sporting director Jesus Garcia Pitarch admitting an interest.

"There could be interest in other players like Van der Vaart, but these are players with strong potential who are very expensive," said Pitarch at a press conference where Atletico presented new signing Gregory Coupet.

No one listens

Meanwhile, Van der Vaart admits he is becoming annoyed at the constant speculation concerning his future at Hamburg, where he is under contract until 2010.

The former Ajax captain will return to training on Friday and says he is planning to be a Hamburg player next season.

Van der Vaart told the club's official website: "Apparently no one listens to me or will not hear it. It would be good if the speculation about me stops now.

"If there is something to say, then I will say it. I will come on Friday for training and, as it stands now, I will play for another year at HSV."
