Chelsea are set to continue to offer manager Luiz Felipe Scolari the opportunity to make his mark on his inherited squad at Stamford Bridge this summer.

Playmaker Deco arrived from Barcelona at the beginning of July, while full-back Jose Bosingwa joined earlier in the close-season prior to Scolari's arrival.

And while Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon admits rumour has seen the Blues linked with some unrealistic targets, he does not expect the Portuguese pair to be the club's final signings.

Chelsea have been linked with a record-breaking move for Kaka, while long-term target Ronaldinho has also returned to the frame, but Kenyon is adamant that at this stage it is only speculation.

Speculation

"We have been linked with all sorts of names, that's inevitable during the transfer window and most of them you can dismiss as speculation," said Kenyon.

"But clearly we have one or two targets and we want to support the manager with the players he wants.

"Everybody thinks players like Kaka and Ronaldinho for example are fantastic players but Felipe made it clear that players like that being linked with us is just speculation."

Meanwhile, Kenyon says Chelsea will not turn their back on homegrown talent, despite the arrival of Brazilian Scolari.

"Chelsea are still committed to having an English/homegrown core to our team supplemented by the best global talent," Kenyon added.

"We discussed this general issue with Felipe and he agrees with us. Felipe wants to give youth a chance if they are good enough."

And with Steve Sidwell on the verge of completing a transfer to Aston Villa, Kenyon admits some players will be forced to move on in order to accommodate new faces and meet Scolari's aim of a maximum of 25 players in his squad.

"Players will be leaving such as Steve Sidwell - and we wish him luck because he was a great club man while he was here - and some joining, either new players or those coming up from the academy/reserves, so we will be closer to the ideal figure," concluded Kenyon.
