Terry: Praise for Scolari
John Terry is hoping to repay the faith shown in him by Luiz Felipe Scolari after being retained as Chelsea captain.
The new Blues manager announced in his first press conference on Tuesday that Terry would be staying as skipper.
Scolari paid a glowing tribute to Terry, who has worn the armband since Jose Mourinho took charge at Stamford Bridge four years ago.
Terry realises that he still has to show Scolari that he is as good as the Brazilian thinks he is, and worthy of a place in the team.
"I was watching the press conference and it was nice to hear that he is going to stay with me as captain," Terry told Chelsea TV.
"Obviously I still need to prove myself in pre-season and prove to him that I want to be here and I am good enough to play, so there is still a lot of hard work to go in from my end."
Terry has been impressed by Scolari since he officially took up his post last week, and insists the language barrier has not proved to be a problem.
Terry said: "I (first) met him a few months ago at one of our games. I was quite surprised to see him.
"He's a very good guy and a great football man, he knows his football.
"His English is very good actually. There have been no problems whatsoever so far."
