Barcelona president Joan Laporta has seen eight board members resign following an emergency meeting.

Laporta is under increasing pressure at Camp Nou after losing a vote of confidence, although the motion did not force a new election.

The situation prompted an emergency board meeting to be called on Thursday, only for Laporta's administration to encounter a fresh setback.

First vice-president Albert Vicens has stepped down, along with sports vice-president Marc Ingla, vice-president for finance Ferran Soriano and five other board members.

Vicens released a statement after his resignation to explain the reasons behind the eight board members' decision to quit.

Discrepancy

"The reasons that have led us to make this decision are based on the discrepancy about what actions to take following the result of the vote of no confidence on Sunday," said Vicens.

"In our view, Sunday's result expressed the majority's discontent with this board of directors and, given that the motion has not prospered, it recommended a substantial and immediate change in the government of the club.

"This opinion is not shared by the president and the group of directors that have decided to continue managing the club.

"We understand our proposal to have offered the club stability and social peace in an immediate and medium term way."
