Massimo Moratti says Inter Milan have done all they can to sign Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard.

Chelsea have rejected an £8million offer from Inter for Lampard, who has 12 months remaining on his contract.

He has yet to agree an extension at Stamford Bridge and Chelsea insist the 30-year-old will not be sold during the transfer window.

Inter remain determined to sign the England international and president Moratti now suggests it is up to Lampard to ask for a move.

Can do no more

"We have made our offer to Chelsea and now it depends on the player," said Moratti at a youth team event in Italy.

"He is a player we like, but we cannot do any more than that."

Meanwhile, Inter striker Julio Cruz is hoping that Lampard can secure a move to the Giuseppe Meazza for the new season.

"I hope Lampard does arrive," Cruz told Sky Italia.

"I think that over time we'll see the situation develop. It is important for a club to have players of a world-class level in its ranks and Inter can certainly afford someone like Lampard.

"It is good to see the side grow, as with so many tournaments like the UEFA Champions League, Coppa Italia and Serie A, it is crucial to have many good alternatives."
