Coppell: Transfer 'fear'

Reading manager Steve Coppell has hinted that he would prefer to sell his want-away players sooner rather than later.

A number of Coppell's squad have been linked with moves away from the Madejski Stadium following the club's relegation to the Championship.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has made no secret of his admiration for Nicky Shorey, while the likes of James Harper and Stephen Hunt have also been linked with exits.

And Coppell has admitted he 'fears' his plans for the new season could be jeopardised if his reportedly in-demand players leave late in the summer transfer window.

"My fear is that we have pre-season then have two or three players taken from us and don't have time to locate replacements," Coppell told the Daily Express.

"But if a Premier League club comes in, I'm not going to stand in anybody's way."
