Rangers winger DaMarcus Beasley is set to miss the first leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round tie through injury.

The American international suffered a hamstring problem during Rangers' friendly win over German side SC Preussen Munster on Sunday.

Gers boss Walter Smith expects the 26-year-old to be sidelined for up to three weeks meaning he will miss the European clash with either FC Santa Coloma or FBK Kaunas on 30th July.

"Da Marcus' injury looks as if it will rule him out for a few weeks which is obviously disappointing," said Smith.

Surgery

Meanwhile, Smith is confident Barry Ferguson will have no problems following his ankle operation.

Ferguson has been ruled out of action for three months with the ankle problem and he has gone under the knife in London to try and clear up the injury.

"Barry has gone for his operation," Smith told Rangers World.

"It is an unusual operation in the sense that footballers don't normally have this type of injury but the specialist says that it is not too difficult.

"Tendons normally tear or become detached but his is split down the middle.

"When he was moving his ankle the tendon was secured at the ends but it was opening in the middle and that was what was causing the pain.

"So the operation is straightforward enough but to ensure the pliability there needs to be a period of the recuperation which looks like three to four months."
