Wright: Aberdeen deal

Aberdeen are poised to complete the signing of Tommy Wright having agreed terms with Darlington and the striker.

Wright emerged as a summer target for the SPL side earlier in the month only for the deal to stall with the two clubs unable to settle on a fee.

The Quakers were holding out for £100,000 for Wright, who top scored at the Darlington Arena last season, with the Dons initially bidding £75,000.

The former Leicester player suffered a knee injury in Darlington's failed play-off bid last season from which he is still recovering.

Dons boss Jimmy Calderwood insisted the deal was all-but done, but would not be signed until they were certain Wright was 100 per cent fit.

Waiting

He told the club's official website: "Tommy Wright had a small injury towards the end of last season in his knee. The doctor has taken a look at him and we are going to get him back in a couple of weeks to look at him again.

"He is in the middle of his rehab at the moment so it is difficult for the medical staff to fully assess him.

"Like Charlie Mulgrew I have been trying for a long time to sign the player so I don't mind waiting another couple of weeks.

"As far as we are concerned Tommy will be joining us before the beginning of the season but he won't be travelling with us to Holland, although we will be in regular contact with him.

"In these kind of situations you can never risk even the smallest of niggles and that is why the deal is not signed and sealed today.

"Tommy will bring a lot of strength to the team as he is a big lad. He is a good holder of the ball and is very strong in the air. He has everything in him to become a big favourite with the fans."
