Williams: New Contract
Scunthorpe United defender Marcus Williams has signed a new two-year contract with the club, ending speculation over his future.
The 22-year-old had been in negotiations with the club for 12 months, and at one stage it looked as though the highly-rated left-book was set to leave the side as several Championship sides reported an interest in his signature.
Scunthorpe manager, Nigel Adkins, remained adamant that the player would not be picked for the first-team until his future had been resolved, and he is pleased that attentions can now return to the pitch.
"We're very pleased [the] negotiations have come to a conclusion and Marcus can concentrate on playing," Adkins told BBC Radio Humberside.
"He's done very well since he's reported back for pre-season training. Now both full-backs are under contract for the next two seasons so hopefully that gives us a good platform to go on as we mean to continue."
Despite securing his future at Glanford Park, Williams was not part of the squad that drew 1-1 with Doncaster Rovers in the pre-season game on Saturday, with trialist Michael Lea handed an opportunity to secure a permanent contract with the club.
