Ronaldo: Uncertain future

Cristiano Ronaldo has refused to confirm that he will be staying at Manchester United.

Real Madrid have been chasing the Portuguese winger for the whole of the summer but United are determined to keep him.

Sir Alex Ferguson reiterated earlier this week that Ronaldo would not be sold after meeting with the player to hear his point of view.

However, Ronaldo, currently on holiday in America, has stated that he does not know what the future holds.

"I've had hundreds of questions about Manchester United and Real Madrid," he told ESPN. "What do you want me to say? That I'm going or I'm staying?

"I don't know about the future, only God knows it. I can't say any more.

Normal

"Great players are always hounded by great clubs. It's a normal situation.

"There are other great players who are in the market who are good and who other clubs want.

"I have always been hounded, not only this year. It's not strange for me, to see what happens."

Real are reportedly prepared to offer Ronaldo massive wages, while United chief executive David Gill is adamant he will not receive a pay rise should he stay at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo signed a new long-term deal with United just 18 months ago but maintains that money will not be a factor in his decision.

Motivated

"I want to be happy regardless of where I play," he explained. "I can be happy everywhere, if I am with people I like, if I am animated, motivated.

"Am I motivated to continue at United? I am always motivated.

"I am ambitious and I want to always improve. I don't know the future, but I will be motivated."

Ronaldo is currently recovering from an ankle operation that will keep him on the sidelines for three months, and he insists his main focus is getting back to fitness as quickly as possible.

"I'm not anxious about the future, I'm feeling normal," he continued.

"Normal is resting my head, my body, having a good recovery and the future belongs to God, not to me."
