Lampard: Can Chelsea keep him?
John Terry remains hopeful that Frank Lampard will sign a new deal at Chelsea.
The midfielder appears increasingly unlikely to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge, with a proposed move to Inter Milan a more realistic option.
However, with a year still to run on his current deal that scenario is not expected to become a reality until January at the earliest.
The England international has been an integral part of a Chelsea squad which has won two Premier League titles, two Carling Cups and an FA Cup in recent seasons, as well as reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League.
Despite his involvement in helping the club enjoy the most successful period in their history it is rumoured that he has become disillusioned with life in West London.
Lampard was reportedly disappointed not to have been offered a new long-term deal some time ago and as a result has allowed his attention to drift elsewhere.
The 30-year-old has made no secret of his desire to link up with former boss Jose Mourinho at Inter, although a move has so far failed to materialise.
Chelsea are keen for their talismanic midfielder to remain at Stamford Bridge, while club captain Terry has also urged his team-mate to reconsider his options.
"I'm very good friends with Frank and we have spoken about it, but the situation is ongoing with the club and Frank," said the England defender.
"The players and the fans all want him to stay, but it's down to Frank and the club to sort it out.
"We are here to focus on the football, but hopefully while he's here the club and his representatives can sort it out."
