John Terry has admitted that he still wakes up thinking about his penalty miss in the UEFA Champions League final.

Terry had the opportunity to win the Champions League for Chelsea in the penalty shoot-out but he could only hit the post with his spot-kick.

Manchester United went on to lift the trophy and a tearful Terry had to be consoled by his team-mates and then manager Avram Grant.

The Blues skipper concedes that he is still feeling the pain of his Moscow heartache, but hopes to banish the memories when the new season gets underway.

"Every morning I wake up, that's the first thing I think about. I am still so desperately disappointed about it," he said.

"But I am a big man with a big character and it is now down to me to deal with that. Playing and scoring for England so soon afterwards helped to ease the pain a little.

"Hopefully success with Chelsea under our new manager can finally flush away those awful memories.

"I'm certainly looking forward to the new season so I can wipe away that bitter disappointment for the club, and especially for me."

Determined

Manchester United also pipped Chelsea to the Premier League title last season but Terry is confident that new boss Luiz Felipe Scolari can lead the team to glory.

"I am absolutely determined to win the Premier League, have another go at the Champions League - in fact I want to win as many trophies as possible.

"That's the aim of our new manager too and he's already impressed that on to everybody's minds.

"He's brought a few big players in and it is now my job to make them feel welcome.

"We are on tour for a couple of weeks which will really help everybody gel and make sure we are all ready for the new season."
