Beattie: Knee injury

James Beattie looks set to miss the start of the new season after undergoing minor knee surgery.

The Sheffield United striker, who scored 22 goals last term, has had his cartilage 'trimmed' and will be sidelined for up to four weeks.

The Blades begin their Championship campaign against Birmingham on 9th August and it seems unlikely that Beattie will be fully fit.

However, he will not know for sure what his chances of recovering are until he is assessed again by the Bramall Lane medical team.

Manager Kevin Blackwell has at least strengthened his striking options after bringing in Darius Henderson from Watford for £2million on Tuesday.
